Hospitality with Tradition

Built in the year 1380, the Hotel Roter Hahn has served guests from near and far for more than 600 years and is therefore one of the oldest inns in all of Germany. Kings and princes have lodged here, as well as merchants and commoners. Once in a while the Roter Hahn was used as a comfortable prison for knights, Aristocrats or noble men who did not pay their debts to the City. They had to stay until all debts where paid.
During the 30 years war, in the year 1631, Rothenburg was taken by the catholic troops of Count Czerklaz Tilly. Lord Mayor George Nusch was the owner of the Roter Hahn. He saved his town with the legendary Master draft and got one of the most recognized persons in the history of Rothenburg.
Gustav Adolph, King of Sweden stayed two times in the house of Nusch.
In the year 1905 it was purchased by Johann Scherer and is still in the possession of the proprietor family.
Hospitality has therefore had a long sense of tradition in our establishment. We strive to make our guests’ stay in our Hotel and in Rothenburg a pleasant and memorable experience. All, who are employed in our Hotel, dedicate all of their professional knowledge to the benefit of our guests. For us, personal attention and friendly care are major attributes of hospitality.
The corridors and lounges are furnished with precious antiques and one feels the flair of over 600 years of history. The rooms, though, are up to today’s modern standards, complete with bath-tub or shower and WC, direct-dial telephone, satellite television, safety box, mini-bar and hair dryer. Because we are located in the historical centre of town, all sights can easily be reached on foot. The medieval part of the city is a reduced traffic area, offering restful peace and quiet, especially at night.
In our cosy restaurant, we cater to the requirements of our guests. In addition to regional and international cuisine, we also offer light meals and vegetarian dishes. During the warm season, we serve our complete meal selections in our outdoor side-walk cafés as well. Our meals are prepared with great care, using quality produce only.
